myEASYbackup : Another WordPress Backup Plugin

Few days ago I made a post on how to backup wordpress automatically. This is the first follow up of that.

Today, I found a nice plugin, which can backup and restore your entire blog including the files, folders and database with a single click. The plugin is myEASYbackup.

This plugin compress the mysql database, files and folders within a single tar or zip file and stores in a folder selected by the admin. Once the backup is ready, a Save Button will appear and you can start downloading the backup clicking on it. You can also use FTP to manually download it into your local computer.

The installation and configuration the plugin is easy, even a non-techie webmaster can make it working within a minute. The plugin adds two admin menu at the wordpress dashboard. One at Settings group where you can configure the plugin and the other at Tools group. The menu at Tools is for generating the backup or restores a backup back to the server.

At the plugin settings page, you first need to choose the correct path to the folder where you want your backups to be saved. This folder must have write permission or else, the plugin will not be able to recognize it. You can also create a sub folder right from the settings page under the actual folder to store the backups. That is all, but you can further customize the plugin if you know a little more on server configs.

The System settings let you control how the plugin will work. You can set how the system commands should work, the backup zip/tar file compression level, change the maximum allocated memory and many other advance things. You can also choose to upload the backups to a remote FTP server to make another copy of your backup.

I have tested this plugin (the latest stable version is 1.0.5.3) with WordPress 3.0.5 and it worked smoothly without any error. The current beta is 1.5.0.8 that has tons of new features like the ability to set the timeout and passive mode in remote FTP upload and can handle large backup files.

Thanks to Camaleo for developing a nice plugin. You can download the plugin from WordPress Plugin Repository.

  1. vault press is the best… I have been using it from quiet a while now and as it is from wordpress itself.. it can’t get any better.. myeasybackup will have to prove its worth before people are willing to risk their life on it…

    • I don’t see much difference in performance between these two and iDrive.
Both myEASYbackup and iDrive are free where VaultPress is a paid one.
