Yes, it does. Say, you bought a dropped domain or a live domain from a person and setup your website on it. Paid a handsome amount of money to a SEO firm to do that necessary thing and after a year, your website still not appearing anywhere on search engine result pages. I noticed some similar situation reported by the members of a Webmaster Forum. What’s the reason behind this? Is it something not curable?
When someone registers a domain with the aim of making money online or offline, they have to put some effort behind it. If that effort is legal (like whitehat SEO) then all are fine. If that effort is not accepted by search engines (like, blackhat) the there might be a chance that the domain is blacklisted or penalized. After getting every aim completed, the owner leaves the domain to be deleted (drop) or sell it to someone else.
If the situation I mentioned matches with yours, then chances are that the dropped domain you purchased is penalized. The seller sold you a domain having a red flag at search engines.
But, there’s a way to fix this as long as you haven’t done any blackhat seo since the purchase. The first thing you should do is to make your whois record public. Doing so, makes you the genuine owner of the domain. Then, you should go the Webmaster Tools of search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing and submit a reconsideration request. By doing so, you will request the search engines to re-evaluate your domain and remove the flag/penalty if no problems found.
