Infolinks vs Kontera

Kontera and Infolinks are two of the major companies providing the Intext Advertising. Intext Advertising is the technology where some keywords in your article will be highlighted using javascript and on mouse hover, the ads will be shown.

I decided to try them both on same website and compare the results. Kontera was good, but infolinks just surprised me and below are why..

  • Fill Rate
Both have a pretty good fill rate for keywords. But, Kontera do lack sometimes when the article is small. Where infolinks filled almost 70% of the maximum keywords I set at my infolink’s control panel. Number of highlighted keywords are automatic at Kontera where you can set the number at infolinks with a maximum of 12 keywords per page limit.
  • Payout Rate
Infolinks beats Kontera by a mile on payout rate. Kontera generated $50 in a weeks span and Infolinks generated $150 in that same time span. Kontera was giving me $0.10 eCPM rate + CPC, but Infolinks is stading at $1.25 eCPM rate + CPC.
  • Pageload Factor
Since the roll out of Google Caffeine, pageload speed factor playing a huge roll in SERP and that’s why I have decided to check the loaded javascripts using Page Speed tool. Kontera was loading 2 external javascripts where infolinks were loading 3 external javascript. But, Kontera is reported to slowdown the pageload speed a bit.

    Infolinks and Kontera

  • Reporting
Both Kontera and Infolinks gets a 10/10 on this. Reporting is almost same and you can only view details till yesterday.
  • Help and Support
Infolinks has better support. Whenever I emailed them, I got reply within 6 hours where I am still waiting for a reply from Kontera for the support request that I made yesterday.

The above comparison based on my experience and reports that I generated in account control panel. This might change publisher to publisher and of course, the niche and the amount of traffic you have. If you are using Infolinks or Kontera, why don’t you share your experience with us?

For me, Infolinks is performing far better than Kontera and I’ll slowly move to Infolinks for all of my sites and blogs.

If you have tons of traffic, the best will be going for a CPM based plan. Both Kontera and Infolinks can set that up for you depending on your request.

Obviously, Infolinks is helping me to generate much much more than it’s closest competitor, that’s what making be really very happy.

As soon as I heard that Infolinks is going to fulfill some of their publisher’s dream, I can’t resist myself to dream on owning one of Dell’s one of this Studio XPS 15 series notebooks so that I can keep blogging on the go.

    Hello Abhik,
You are absolutely correct on this one. Infolinks is doing better than kontera in my blog also.
btw, have you tried other intext advertisers like clicksor, bidvertiser and adbrite?

  2. To be honest, I tried all those companies you mentioned, but not their Intext Advertising Solution.
I am going to try them all one by one and will write a follow up here.

  3. Hi Abhik,
This is Jonathan from Kontera. I’m glad you were generally pleased with our In-Text ad network, we pride ourselves on being an effective, relevant way for publishers to monetize their content.
In terms of your specific areas of concern, I’ll try to answer the best that I can
Regarding Kontera’s fill rate, if you contact our support team (or me), we can manually change the amount of links displayed to whatever number you want. The only issue is we’ve found 6 links to be the optimal amount of links per page, so that while I’d caution that increasing density isn’t necessarily going to lead to more ad clicks, you’re more than welcome to experiment.
Concerning your Kontera revenue, I can’t really comment on your account without seeing it, but I’d be more than happy to go over it with you see if you e-mail me.
Speaking in more general terms, responding to our Publisher’s needs is one of foremost priorities at Kontera, and if there’s ever anything you need an immediate answer to, feel free to contact me personally. I check my e-mail 7 days a week, and I’ll make sure we respond to you within 24 hours.
    Thanks,

  6. Hi, thank your for your advise, I’m getting $0.25 eCPM on infolinks, it’s really low so I was searching for an alternative. Do you think that Kontera could improve this? Thanks
