7 Day WordPress Camp : Day 4

Continuing from 7 Day WordPress Camp : Day 3

We are at the middle of our course. Let’s not do any hard work today. Today we are going to setup the plugins, change their settings to work with our blog. Also we will be setting your blog on Autopilot using wp-o-matic and wp-video tube. This is necessary as we are talking about massive profit. Auto update + Manual Update = High Income.

First, we need to submit and very ownership of our blog to Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. These three have their own webmaster tool section. For Google, go to Google Webmaster Tools. Go to Yahoo Site Explorer for Yahoo and Bing Webmaster Toolbox for Bing. You’ll need to have am account with them in order to submit and verfiy. Login with your username or create an account.

Once you submitted your blog, you’ll need to verify the ownership. There are mainly two types of verification method. One is uploading a file on your server and the other is adding a html meta tag to your page. Choose the second option which is adding the html meta tag. Copy those tags and paste them in a text file with line break. We’ll need them later while setting up the plugins.

Let’s set them up.
1. Platinum SEO Pack: We already know that this plugin enhances the Onpage SEO. Let’s tweak the main settings.

  • 301 Redirect on Permalink Change: Yes, we’ll need this. Check the box if it’s not already.
  • Home Title: Put your Blog’s Title here. Also, add 1 ~ 2 Keywords here. For Example, we have Make Money Online | Webmaster Resources here.
  • Home Description: Add something descriptive within 160 characters. Include some of your main keywords in it.
  • Home Keywords: Comma separated list of your keywords.
  • Canonical URLs and Rewrite Titles: Should be checked
  • Leave the other settings as it is.
  • At bottom of the page, there is a text field called “Additional Home Headers”. Now paste those html meta tags you got from search engines in order to verify the ownership.
  • Now click on Update Options button.
  • You can now go to the Webmaster Tools of the search engines and verify your site using meta tags again.

2. XML Sitemap: It generates a sitemap every time you (or the autopilot) make a new post or edit a existing post. It also pings the search engines to notify the changes in the sitemap.

  • Basic Options: Check all the boxes except “Enable MySQL Standard Mode”.
  • Additional Pages: Nothing required
  • Post Priority: Choose the first option which is “Do not use automatic priority calculation”.
  • Location of your sitemap file: The first option, i.e. “Automatic Detection”.
  • Sitemap Content: Select only the first four options, also choose “Include the last modification time” under “Further options”.
  • Excluded Items: Nothing
  • Change Frequency: Leave it as it is. The default settings are fair enough.
  • Priorities: Leave it as it is. The default settings are fair enough.
  • Click on Update Options button.
  • Once the settings are updated, you’ll be redirected to the same page. Let’s built our first sitemap. Click on “rebuild the sitemap manually” at the top options and you’re done.
  • Now, go to the webmaster tools of the search engines again and submit the sitemap.

3. WP-Video Tube: It embeds videos automatically from youtube to the blog. Unlike other similar plugins, it also adds the video description as post content and video tags as Tags. In free version, you can use up to 3 search terms and there will be a linkback to the plugin’s site. But that’s good enough.

  • Search: Select “Videos” from the dropdown menu. Then enter you main keyword as the search term.
  • Run every: Select your desired values. I recommend once in every day. Check the box before “humanize”.
  • Select the category under which the video will be posted.
  • Comments: Yes
  • Post Status: Published

4. WP-O-Matic: It’s the plugin that will put our blog on autopilot as well as the earnings. We need to configure it properly to get the best results.

  • Initial Settings: When you use the plugin for the first time in a blog, there are some initial settings need to be configured. Nothing fancy, just select Unix Cron, Enable Logging, Cache Images and then set the puth to cache folder. The instructions are pretty much clear there.
  • Adding a campaign: Click on the “Add Campaign” at left. There are five settings tab for a campaign. Let me guide you through them.
  • Basic: Give the campaign a title. Something that can distinguish the campaign from other campaigns. Check the Active box and put a campaign slug.
  • Feed: It’s the RSS Feed section which are going to be imported. You can add as many feed as you like for a campaign. To cut down the server load, I recommend to keep it below 5.
  • Categories: This is the list of the categories present in your blog and where the posts will be created once they’re fetched from the feeds. Select the proper category. You can also select more than one category here.
  • Rewrite: Here you can rewrite the fetched post. You can also link a certain word if that’s found in the article.
  • Options: These are the campaign specific options. Change them according to your need.
  • Repeat the process to add more campaigns.

We are done today. What a day it was and I was calling it a no hard work day. LOL
